Post-Session: Realty, PSU Banks drag Nifty below 24,400; Sensex down 156 pts

Indian benchmark indices were unable to sustain their early gains and traded in negative territory for most of the session on May 6, with the Nifty closing below the 24,400 mark due to broad-based selling pressure, except in the auto sector.



Key laggards on the Nifty included Adani Enterprises, Eternals, Jio Financial, Trent, and SBI Life. On the other hand, top gainers were Hero MotoCorp, Tata Steel, Bharti Airtel, M&M, and Hindustan Unilever.



Barring auto, all sectoral indices ended lower. The PSU Bank index plunged nearly 5%, Realty dropped 3.5%, while pharma, consumer durables, media, oil & gas, and power sectors declined between 1% and 2.6%.



The 30-share benchmark index ended at 80641.07 down by -155.77 points or by -0.19 % and then NSE Nifty was at 24379.6 down by -81.55 points or by -0.33 %.



Sensex touched intraday high of 80981.58 and intraday low of 80481.03 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 24509.65 and intraday low of 24331.8



The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Bharti Airtel Ltd. (Rs. 1896.35,+1.66%), Tata Steel Ltd. (Rs. 144.40,+1.62%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 3069.50,+1.59%), Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (Rs. 2378.50,+1.28%), Nestle India Ltd. (Rs. 2355.00,+1.06%), among others.



The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Eternal Ltd. (Rs. 232.60,-3.08%), Tata Motors Ltd. (Rs. 647.80,-2.09%), State Bank of India (Rs. 774.15,-2.01%), Adani Ports & Special Economic Zone Ltd. (Rs. 1320.35,-1.96%), NTPC Ltd. (Rs. 341.75,-1.95%), among others.



TECk index was at 17421.22 up by 18.92 points or by 0.11%. Bharti Airtel Ltd. (Rs. 1896.35,+1.66%), Tejas Networks Ltd. (Rs. 701.65,+1.22%), HCL Technologies Ltd. (Rs. 1579.10,+0.64%), Infosys Ltd. (Rs. 1511.30,+0.24%), Bharti Hexacom Ltd. (Rs. 1691.50,+0.22%),.



Realty index was at 6630.06 down by -239.54 points or by -3.49%. Godrej Industries Ltd. (Rs. 2084.15,-6.06%), Sobha Ltd. (Rs. 1260.00,-4.72%), Prestige Estates Projects Ltd. (Rs. 1326.85,-4.18%), Oberoi Realty Ltd. (Rs. 1559.75,-3.99%), Anant Raj Ltd. (Rs. 443.00,-3.87%),.



The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 4277 , shares advanced were 907 while 3222 shares declined and 148 were unchanged.
