Pre-Session: Indian markets may open flat; Asian indices trade mixed

The benchmark Sensex and Nifty indices are likely to open on a flat note on Thursday as trends in the GIFT Nifty indicate a muted start for the broader index with a fall of 10 points.



Investors will be eyeing key earnings reports, including those of State Bank of India (SBI), Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL), Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL), and Asian Paints among others.



On Wednesday, the 30-share benchmark index ended at 73466.39 down by -45.46 points or by -0.06 % and then NSE Nifty was at 22302.5 up by 0 points or by 0 %.



On the global front, across the Asia-Pacific region, markets exhibit a mixed sentiment ahead of China's April trade figures and Japan's pay statistics.



Japan's Nikkei saw a modest uptick of 0.26 per cent, while Korea's Kospi remained largely unchanged. Conversely, Australia's ASX200 declined over 0.55 per cent.

In the US, the S&P 500 barely budged, hovering near the flatline, while the Nasdaq Composite dipped by approximately 0.18 er cent. The tech sector weighed down the indices, notably with Uber and Shopify, both reporting quarterly results.

On NSE Future and Options, total number of contracts traded in index futures was 522745 with a total turnover of Rs. 32423.28 Crore. Along with this total number of contracts traded in stock futures were 1589285 with a total turnover of Rs. 119822.09 Crore. Total numbers of contracts for index options were 774199243 with a total turnover of Rs. 53238746.20 Crore. and total numbers of contracts for stock options were 5341144 with a total turnover of Rs. 418978.75 Crore.



The FIIs on 08/05/2024 stood as net buyer in equity and debt. Gross equity purchased stood at Rs. 14222.30 Crore and gross debt purchased stood at Rs. 1887.44 Crore, while the gross equity sold stood at Rs. 17165.28 Crore and gross debt sold stood at Rs. 2615.89 Crore. Therefore, the net investment of equity and debt reported were Rs. -2942.98 Crore and Rs. -728.45
