Jindal Steel Commissions First Galvanizing Line at Angul Plant

Jindal Steel has successfully commissioned its first Continuous Galvanizing Line (CGL 1) at the Angul Integrated Steel Complex in Odisha, marking a major milestone in expanding its coated steel product portfolio.

The new state-of-the-art line will manufacture galvanized and galvalume products under the Jindal Panther Galvanised and ZINKALUME brands. These products will cater to a wide range of industries including appliances, automotive, infrastructure, and construction.

CGL 1 is designed to process steel with thicknesses ranging from 0.15 mm to 1.50 mm and widths between 700 mm and 1400 mm, ensuring high precision and consistent quality across various applications.

The Jindal Panther Galvanised range includes full hard, soft, and skin-passed galvanized steel used in air conditioners, white goods, electrical panels, ducting, coolers, vehicle bodies, silos, and storage boxes. These are also ideal base materials for pre-painted galvanized iron (PPGI).

ZINKALUME Galvalume products, coated with an aluminium-silicon-zinc alloy, offer superior corrosion resistance and thermal durability. They are ideal for applications such as refrigerator backs, solar structures, fuel tanks, and pre-painted galvalume (PPGL) products.

The line also enables the production of thinner hot-rolled galvanized coils (1.00–1.50 mm) for use in tube manufacturing, silos, tank farms, and pre-engineered buildings, along with high-strength galvanized steel for automotive underbody components.

“The commissioning of our first galvanizing line at the Angul Integrated Steel Complex is a proud moment for us. It demonstrates our dedication to delivering high-quality, value-added steel solutions across industries. We believe Panther Galvanised and ZINKALUME products will set new industry standards,” said Naveen Jindal, Chairman of Jindal Steel.

Looking ahead, the company plans to add another 6 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) of crude steel capacity at the Angul facility this year, targeting a total capacity of 12 MTPA by the end of 2025—positioning it among India’s largest single-location steel plants.
