Post-Session: Sensex, Nifty end flat; broader indices fall 1%

Benchmark Sensex closed almost flat in a range-bound trade on Monday as investors booked profits in index heavyweights amid high valuation concerns.



Shares of public sector banks (PSBs) and state financial institutions were under pressure on Monday, falling up to 9 per cent on the BSE in Monday's intraday trade on profit booking, after the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) proposed tighter rules to govern lending to projects under implementation.



The 30-share benchmark index ended at 73895.54 up by 17.39 points or by 0.02 % and then NSE Nifty was at 22442.7 down by -33.15 points or by -0.15 %.



Sensex touched intraday high of 74359.69 and intraday low of 73786.29 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 22588.8 and intraday low of 22409.45



The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1624.75,+5.01%), Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (Rs. 3921.00,+2.13%), Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (Rs. 2255.35,+1.80%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 2225.10,+1.47%), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (Rs. 1529.55,+1.40%), among others.



The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Titan Company Ltd. (Rs. 3281.65,-7.18%), State Bank of India (Rs. 807.75,-2.86%), NTPC Ltd. (Rs. 356.65,-2.31%), Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd. (Rs. 306.90,-1.22%), Larsen & Toubro Ltd. (Rs. 3462.10,-1.06%), among others.



Realty index was at 7758.85 up by 204.52 points or by 2.71%. Godrej Industries Ltd. (Rs. 2843.90,+10.70%), Brigade Enterprises Ltd. (Rs. 1112.60,+8.80%), Prestige Estates Projects Ltd. (Rs. 1556.20,+6.68%), Sobha Ltd. (Rs. 1913.70,+3.09%), Oberoi Realty Ltd. (Rs. 1500.50,+1.94%),.

_CDS index was at 52702.07 down by -2108.81 points or by -3.85%. Titan Company Ltd. (Rs. 3281.65,-7.18%), Whirlpool of India Ltd. (Rs. 1428.30,-2.94%), Voltas Ltd. (Rs. 1452.00,-2.59%), Rajesh Exports Ltd. (Rs. 302.50,-2.26%), VIP Industries Ltd. (Rs. 549.80,-1.61%),.



The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 4339 , shares advanced were 1424 while 2715 shares declined and 200 were unchanged.
