Pre-Session: GIFT Nifty indicates a firm start amid mixed global cues

The benchmark Sensex and Nifty indices are likely to open higher on April 26 as trends in the GIFT Nifty indicate a positive start for the broader index with a gain of 87 points.



Among individual stocks, IT services company Tech Mahindra on Thursday reported a net profit of Rs 661 crore for the fourth quarter ended March 2024, a 41 per cent year-on-year fall from a year ago due to one-time expenses. Sequentially, the profit was up 29.5 per cent, but it was below the consensus Bloomberg estimates of Rs 741 crore.

IndusInd Bank on Thursday posted a 15 per cent rise in consolidated net profit at Rs 2,349 crore for the fourth quarter ended March 2024, helped by increase in interest income. The lender had logged a profit of Rs 2,043 crore in the year-ago period.



On Thursday, the 30-share benchmark index ended at 74339.44 up by 486.5 points or by 0.66 % and then NSE Nifty was at 22570.35 up by 202.35 points or by 0.9 %.



On the global front, Markets in Asia-Pacific remained mixed with Japan's Nikkei 225 up 0.32 per cent, while broad based Topix index added 0.07 per cent. South Korea’s Kospi hiked by 0.86 per cent.



Meanwhile, Australia’s S&P/ASX 200 fell by 1.27 per cent. However, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng index gained 1.15 per cent.

On the other hand, overnight in the US, all three indices dropped on lower than expected GDP data for the first quarter that came in with a growth of 1.6 per cent versus an estimated growth of 2.4 per cent by economists. Consequently, the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 0.98 per cent. The S&P 500 slid by 0.46 per cent, and the Nasdaq Composite shed 0.64 per cent.

On NSE, total number of shares traded was 1181.27 Crore and total turnover stood at Rs. 138700.51 Crore.

On NSE Future and Options, total number of contracts traded in index futures was 616113 with a total turnover of Rs. 62387.74 Crore. Along with this total number of contracts traded in stock futures were 4107816 with a total turnover of Rs. 352476.47 Crore. Total numbers of contracts for index options were 428345001 with a total turnover of Rs. 45442790.46 Crore. and total numbers of contracts for stock options were 5231671 with a total turnover of Rs. 470564.92 Crore.



The FIIs on 25/04/2024 stood as net buyer in equity and debt. Gross equity purchased stood at Rs. 17197.50 Crore and gross debt purchased stood at Rs. 848.76 Crore, while the gross equity sold stood at Rs. 12970.31 Crore and gross debt sold stood at Rs. 4048.49 Crore. Therefore, the net investment of equity and debt reported were Rs. 4227.19 Crore and Rs. -3199.73
