Sensex up 148 pts, off day's high as IT shares slip

Benchmark indices were trading in a rangebound manner on Wednesday backed by upbeat cues from global peers.



At 14:50 hours, the 30-share benchmark index was trading at 73886.49 up by 148.04 points or by 0.2 % and then NSE Nifty was at 22402 up by 34 points or by 0.15 %.



Sensex touched intraday high of 74121.61 and intraday low of 73808.69 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 22476.45 and intraday low of 22385.9



The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were JSW Steel Ltd. (Rs. 881.65,+3.57%), Tata Steel Ltd. (Rs. 165.40,+2.67%), Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd. (Rs. 291.05,+2.12%), Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1843.00,+1.64%), NTPC Ltd. (Rs. 352.15,+1.51%), among others.



The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 1188.00,-1.01%), Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (Rs. 3836.00,-0.99%), Titan Company Ltd. (Rs. 3602.85,-0.74%), Infosys Ltd. (Rs. 1431.30,-0.72%), Reliance Industries Ltd. (Rs. 2904.25,-0.49%), among others.



Metal index was at 31065.64 up by 863.56 points or by 2.86%. Steel Authority of India (SAIL) Ltd. (Rs. 164.35,+7.95%), NMDC Ltd. (Rs. 248.80,+6.10%), Hindalco Industries Ltd. (Rs. 634.15,+3.64%), JSW Steel Ltd. (Rs. 881.65,+3.57%), Jindal Steel & Power Ltd. (Rs. 940.75,+3.41%),.



TECk index was at 15940.8 down by -123.88 points or by -0.77%. Vodafone Idea Ltd. (Rs. 13.10,-8.96%), Tata Elxsi Ltd. (Rs. 7038.15,-4.81%), Indus Towers Ltd. (Rs. 349.80,-2.74%), Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd. (Rs. 140.10,-2.51%), Tejas Networks Ltd. (Rs. 1071.25,-1.44%),.



The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 4128 , shares advanced were 2363 while 1593 shares declined and 172 were unchanged.
