The benchmark Sensex and Nifty indices are likely to open higher on Tuesday as trends in the GIFT Nifty indicate a firm start for the broader index with a gain of 32 points.

On the result front, Tata Consumer Products, Tata Elxsi, ICICI Prudential Life Insurance Company, Mahindra & Mahindra Financial Services, Mahindra EPC Irrigation, Multi Commodity Exchange of India, 360 ONE WAM, Cyient DLM, Huhtamaki India, LKP Securities, and NELCO will be in focus ahead of March FY24 quarter earnings on April 23.

Among individuals, Reliance Industries will be in focus as the oil-telecom-to-retail major recorded net profit at Rs 21,243 crore for March FY24 quarter, growing 0.1 percent YoY, dented by higher tax cost. Gross revenue for the quarter at Rs 2,64,834 crore jumped 10.8 percent on-year, supported by double-digit growth in oil-to-chemical (O2C) and consumer business.

On Monday, the 30-share benchmark index ended at 73648.62 up by 560.29 points or by 0.77 % and then NSE Nifty was at 22336.4 up by 189.4 points or by 0.86 %.

On the global front, Markets in Asia were mixed on Tuesday morning with Japan's Nikkei 225 was up 0.18 per cent, while broad based Topix index declined 0.22 per cent, giving up its early gains. South Korea’s Kospi too gave up its early lead, trading down by 0.26 per cent.

Meanwhile, Australia’s S&P/ASX 200 rose by 0.52 per cent. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng index jumped 0.63 per cent.

On the other hand, overnight in the US, all three indices shot up, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average adding 0.67 per cent. The S&P 500 increased by 0.87 per cent, and the Nasdaq Composite soared by 1.11 per cent.

The FIIs on 22/04/2024 stood as net buyer in equity and debt. Gross equity purchased stood at Rs. 16861.29 Crore and gross debt purchased stood at Rs. 1516.26 Crore, while the gross equity sold stood at Rs. 16088.52 Crore and gross debt sold stood at Rs. 2335.54 Crore.
