Sensex falls 200 pts from day's high; Airtel up, banks slip

Indian equity markets witnessed volatility in Thursday's intra-day deals, with Airtel and select IT shares seen holding gains, while bank declining.



At 14:40 hours, the 30-share benchmark index was trading at 72738.6 down by -205.08 points or by -0.28 % and then NSE Nifty was at 22137.75 down by -10.15 points or by -0.05 %.



Sensex touched intraday high of 73473.05 and intraday low of 72679.88 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 22326.5 and intraday low of 22080.95

The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Bharti Airtel Ltd. (Rs. 1278.00,+5.04%), Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd. (Rs. 280.05,+2.08%), Tata Steel Ltd. (Rs. 161.25,+0.75%), Infosys Ltd. (Rs. 1424.75,+0.71%), Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (Rs. 3895.65,+0.60%), among others.



The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Nestle India Ltd. (Rs. 2453.60,-3.67%), Axis Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1021.40,-2.98%), Titan Company Ltd. (Rs. 3563.90,-2.28%), ITC Ltd. (Rs. 419.65,-1.48%), Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (Rs. 12350.00,-1.23%), among others.

TECk index was at 15876.21 up by 207.69 points or by 1.33%. Just Dial Ltd. (Rs. 1009.70,+12.94%), Bharti Airtel Ltd. (Rs. 1278.00,+5.04%), Network18 Media & Investments Ltd. (Rs. 89.65,+4.58%), Indus Towers Ltd. (Rs. 345.50,+3.80%), Vodafone Idea Ltd. (Rs. 13.35,+3.33%),.

The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 4162 , shares advanced were 2228 while 1764 shares declined and 170 were unchanged.
